Epidural Steroid Injections

The epidural steroid injection is a specialized procedure we perform to help people who are in pain.

It is generally used when the pain is coming from spine problems, particularly in the lumbar region.

The procedure is performed in the pain center, usually only takes a few minutes, and is itself not painful.  It involves the sterile injection of high doses of corticosteroids, powerful anti-inflammatory medication, into the spinal canal. It is done under x-ray guidance and is very safe.

These are sometimes done as a series of 3 injections, each separated by a week.

Conditions for which the procedure is performed include spinal stenosis and disc herniations.  The majority of patients getting epidurals achieve relief from their pain.
