Babak Morvarid, M.S., M.D.
Dr. Morvarid was born in Tehran, Iran. He immigrated to the US at the age of 12 because of the Iranian
Revolution and its aftermath, growing up in his teens in Southern California, where his parents still
reside. After high school, he attended the University of California in San Diego, where he majored in
Biochemistry with a Minor in Philosophy. Still unsure as to his future career path, whether in the social
or natural sciences, he decided to attend Georgetown University for a Master’s Degree in Physiology,
and that sparked a keen interest in medicine that lead to his matriculation at Georgetown University
Medical School in Washington DC. He graduated in 2001 from Georgetown and initially began a
combined residency in Internal Medicine and Neurology. However, he decided early on to concentrate
on Neurology and after finishing his medical internship at Boston Medical Center, he began his residency
program in Neurology at Columbia University Neurological Institute of New York. His training was
concluded at Brown University, Rhode Island Hospital, where he completed a post-graduate fellowship
in clinical neurophysiology. He is boarded in Neurology and Clinical Neurophysiology through the
American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He is on the faculty of the Columbia University College of
Physicians and Surgeons, where he is a frequent attending physician in clinical neurology.
Dr. Morvarid enjoys exercise and spending a great deal of time with family. He and his wife have two
children.
His intent as a physician is to treat all patients as family, without exception.
