Stroke
Stroke is the third leading cause of death
in the UNited States and a major cause of disability. It affects
about 1 out of 500 people per year.
The cause of stroke is the sudden
disruption of blood flow to part of the brain, usually because of a clot
within a blood vessel.
The most common symptoms of stroke are the
sudden onset of:
- trouble speaking
- weakness of one arm, one leg, or one
side of the body
- drooping of one side of the face
- confusion
- trouble walking
- trouble seeing
The occurrence of these symptoms should
prompt an immediate call to 911. In an appropriate setting,
emergency treatment can sometimes reverse these symptoms.
Englewood Hospital has a Primary Stroke
Center, developed by Dr. Dennis, in which a patient can receive extremely
urgent and maximal state of the art care.
With effective treatment patients can
recover to enjoy full and meaningful lives.
