Back Pain
Back pain is one of the most frequent
complaints seen by a neurologist. It can be associated with painful
symptoms radiating into a leg; this is commonly referred to as sciatica.
Back pain is most often simply due to ‘wear and tear' but can also result
from trauma or other medical illnesses. A neurologist can often determine
the cause of back pain through a clinical examination, and also may need
to obtain diagnostic studies including MRI’s and electrodiagnostic tests.
Treatment for back pain includes various oral medications, epidural
cortisone injections and, occasionally, referral for surgery.
