Blindness
While blindness is often most appropriately treated by an ophthalmologist,
it can also be due to a neurological disturbance. Blindness from
neurological diseases can affect one or both eyes, and can occur either
gradually or suddenly. A variety of conditions can cause visual
disturbances, including carotid artery disease, strokes, brain masses,
multiple sclerosis and inflammatory processes. A neurologist, often in
conjunction with an eye doctor, can usually diagnose the cause of the
visual loss and treat accordingly.
