Neurological Evaluations

This is the primary function of the neurologist.  When you make an appointment to see one of us about your problem, a comprehensive neurological evaluation will take place.

This is mostly like any other visit to a doctor, only the emphasis of the interview and the examination will be on disorders of the nervous system. Nervous system refers to the brain, spinal cord, nerves, and muscles.

The first part of the evaluation will be comprised of the medical interview.  During this process, you will tell the doctor about your medical history and the symptoms that are concerning you.  After listening to your story, the doctor will ask you more questions to try and clarify the diagnosis.

After the interview, the doctor will perform a neurological examination.  This is a special kind of medical examination that you may not be familiar with.  It involves specialized testing of various aspects of function of the neurological system.  This examination ability is a core specialized skill that the neurologist possesses. It allows us to determine of there is any evidence of dysfunction within your nervous system.

A further aspect of the evaluation may involve the interpretation of laboratory or radiographic data.  If you've had any relevant MRIs, CTs, or XRAYs taken, it is helpful if you bring them with you for your evaluation.

After the doctor has analyzed all of the forgoing information, he will offer you an opinion as to the likely diagnoses and then develop a testing and treatment regimen which may involve further follow-up visits.

Because of our group's reputation, we are often called upon to make second opinions in cases where patients have already gone through an evaluation with a prior neurologist.
